Michigan is also home to about 65,000 inland lakes and is the only state to consist entirely of two peninsulas, uniquely shaped like a “mitten,” as some would say. Michigan has a humid continental climate with generally hot summers and cold winter, with northern Michigan having the more extreme climate conditions.

Today Michigan’s economy is composed primarily of automotive manufacturing, cereal production, information technology, aerospace, military equipment, iron, and copper. Michigan also has a thriving tourist industry, attracting vacationers, hunters, and nature-lovers from across the US and Canada. Aside from Michigan’s beautiful beaches, forests, and lakes, people also come to visit popular attractions such as The Henry Ford, Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Zoo, and events such as the Tulip Time Festival and the National Cherry Festival.
